Sean didn't set out to build a Star Wars collection. He set out to build Darth because it was cool. That's the whole reason, and it's enough of one.

What makes this piece unusual even by Random Brass standards is that nothing was painted or altered to achieve the effect. The matte black of the figure's body, the deep red of the cape, the helmet's visor — those are the natural colors of the lamp parts as they were found. Sean didn't make this look like Darth Vader. He found the parts that already did.

The lightsaber the figure holds is sculptural — a lamp component that reads perfectly in context without needing to glow. The red spiral tube rising beside him is a different matter entirely: a vintage-style filament tube that lights up in deep crimson, the actual light source of the piece. The reclaimed wood base is hand-carved by Sean, pale and live-edged, chosen to let the darkness of the figure stand forward.

All lamp parts. Nothing painted. Nothing welded or bent. Fully functional.

 

The reclaimed wood base of this piece was sourced from Custom Cut Remodeling, a local woodworking shop in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Every Random Brass base is hand-carved by Sean from reclaimed material — wood that already had a life before it became part of a sculpture.
