The Way it Works
Someone walks up to Sean and says they want a scale of justice. He's never made one. He's never figured out how to build a functional balance scale out of lamp parts.
The moment they say it, his mind is already moving — running through his inventory, working the problem, figuring out if and how it's possible.
That's how every commission starts.
What Sean Will Do
Bring Sean a concept. A car, a creature, a moment, a machine — something he hasn't built before, or a direction he hasn't explored. Share the inspiration, the vibe, the feeling you want the piece to carry.
He'll tell you honestly whether it's something he can do, whether it's a possibility worth exploring, or whether it isn't the right fit. You'll know before anything else happens.
If the answer is yes, here's what he asks in return:
No direction on the build itself.
Once Sean commits to a piece, the creative decisions are his. That's not a condition — it's the entire reason the work is what it is. The moment someone starts directing the build, the artistry dies. He won't do it any other way, and the result wouldn't be worth having if he did.
What You Can Expect
Sean won't hand off a piece he isn't 100% satisfied with. That's a promise in both directions: you're not getting something he settled on, and you're not getting a timeline he can guarantee.
A commission might take a week. It might take seven months. Sean doesn't work on multiple pieces at once. When a commission is on his brain, it stays there until it's done. He puts his full attention into one piece, sees it through, and only then moves on to the next. That focus is part of why every piece comes out the way it does.
When it's done, it's done right. That's the deal.
Pricing
Commission pricing depends on complexity, scale, how specific or abstract the concept is, and what parts the piece requires.
Commissions start at $1,500 and range up to $7,000+ depending on the vision and what the piece demands. More abstract concepts and more complex builds sit higher in the range. Sean will give you an honest number before any work begins.
Deposit & Agreement
No money changes hands until both parties agree the commission is the right fit. Once that agreement is in place, a deposit is required as commitment from both sides. The deposit confirms the project is happening and gives Sean the green light to start.
What This Is
Every Random Brass piece is one of a kind. A commission is the only way to have one made specifically for you — built from antique lamp parts, on a hand-carved reclaimed wood base, by the only person who knows how to make them.
There's no template. No version two. When Sean's creativity on a concept runs its course, that's where it ends.
